Caravan holiday this summer?
If you are towing this summer in the UK or going abroad make sure you are safe and legal. You may be picking up your brand new caravan and you need to make sure you are legal to tow.
Are you legal to tow?
If you are towing a caravan over 750kg, or the combined weight of your car and caravan is exceeding 3500kg you will need a B+E licence. This is also known as a trailer test.
Do you have the correct licence?
If you passed your car test before 1st January 1997 you should already have a B+E. If you passed on or after the 1st January 1997 you will have to pass a test to get the B+E added to your licence.
How do you get the correct B+E licence?
You must have a car licence and be at least 17 years old. We provide lessons and arrange a test for you, the complete package. Lessons can be booked Hour by hour or an intensive 1, 2 or 3 day course in Shrewsbury, Telford or Wrexham. The test is roughly 90 minutes with safety questions, reversing, hitching and on road driving. The test is conducted by an external DVSA examiner, the same as your car test.
How do the lessons work?
They can be booked lesson by lesson or as an intensive course. We supply the easy to drive car and trailer and arrange the test for you at our private test site. You will practice at our test site and on the local test routes. This really improves your confidence and pass rates. Our pass rates are excellent, better than double the national average and we offer finance packages.
How many lessons will I need?
Everyone is different, you can complete a free taster lesson to find out more and decide how many lessons you need. On average if you have already been towing and your are a confidant driver its 1 day. if you have done little or no towing but are a confidant driver 2 days. If you are a novice you may need 3 days.
What if I already have the correct licence?
If you already have the correct licence you may want to book some trailer / caravan reversing and towing training. This will improve your confidence and skill when towing. We can look at loading your caravan and pre-use vehicle safety checks.
What happens if you have the wrong licence?
If you have the wrong licence you will be breaking the law. You could receive a large fine, points on your licence and invalidate your insurance.
