This course provides candidates with the necessary skills to assess and report on the quality of any goods vehicle driver. Please note: Whilst an LGV Assessor course prepares candidates to carry out assessments, it does not prepare them to carry out remedial training. If this is required by your business the LGV Instructor course would be the most appropriate course for you as this covers assessing and teaching. LGV Instructor
On successful completion of the course candidates will:
- Be able to recall and discuss the duties and responsibilities of an LGV Assessor
- Be able to conduct driver assessments
- Be able to produce factual, informative reports
Course Content:
- Driver licensing and eyesight checks
- Assessment procedure
- Assessment route selection and directions to drivers
- Driver marking sheets
- Report writing
- Accident, vehicle defect and periodical driving assessments
The LGV Assessor course concludes with an objective examination carried out by an NRI examiner. All elements of the examination must be passed in order to successfully qualify as an LGV Assessor.

Following the successful completion of the examination, you will be required to complete a registration form which outlines the terms and conditions of your qualification. The form must be sent, along with all requested documents, for final approval. You will then be sent a registration number and photo card within 10 to 15 working days, which will be valid for five years.
Useful Guidance
The NRI exam will consist of 3 parts:
- Part 1 - Theory Examination - 100 multiple choice questions from 4 subject areas (Instructor Technique, highway code, legislation, eco safe driving and testing) 80% pass mark required
- Part 2 - Practical Driving Ability - A one hour drive and one off road exercise consisting of either a reverse or uncouple and couple. No more than six driving faults are allowed and no serious or dangerous faults
- Part 3 - In Cab Training Exercises - Teaching a new skill to a novice, remedial training to someone who has skill fade, demonstration drive with commentary to someone who has failed a test. A 70% pass mark is required in each of these elements.
To give you an idea of this course's credentials it is fully supported by the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and finally most importantly it is recognised as the Industry standard and endorsed by the DVSA.

- Must be 21 Years Old
- Must hold a current UK Driving License
- Must have held the valid category that you wish to instruct for at least 3 years
