What do I need before I start?

You must hold a valid UK driving licence, the minimum age is 18.

What will I be doing?

1. Ask us to post a free application pack, this contains everything you need to get started.
2. Pass a medical and apply for a Cat C provisional entitlement.
2. Prepare online and pass the Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception theory tests.
3. Optional free taster session.
4. Complete the Cat C driver training and practical test.
5. Driver CPC training and test if you will be driving professionally.
6. Complete the Cat CE driver training and practical test.

Once you pass the theory tests we recommend arranging a free taster session. This is a perfect opportunity to visit one of our sites and find out more about the courses that we offer and try the equipment that we use. It allows us to predict a suitable amount of lessons for you.

Where will I do my course and test?

We have training centres in Shrewsbury, Telford and Wrexham. We have hundreds of driving tests pre booked at these locations.  We will arrange an intensive training course and test to fit in with your schedule available 7 days a week. The public driving test site in Shrewsbury has permanently closed, our private test site in Shrewsbury is the only test facility for this category of training in the area.

How does the training work?

We supply the equipment you need for the training and test. Our fleet of Cat C and CE training vehicles are easy to drive, small and easy to reverse. Your lessons will be in the same location as your test. Our experienced instructors will prepare you for the 90 minute DVSA test one to one. Covering the test criteria including the reversing exercise, safety questions and up to 60 minutes of on road driving.

Cat C Intermediate 16 Hour Course - The average course fits most people. The 16 hour course is usually split into 4 x 4 hour days with the 90 minute DVSA test included on the 4th day.

The course is not a fixed duration, we can arrange more or less training depending on your skill and experience. Our  courses produce an excellent pass rate more than double of the national average.

Cat CE (HGV Class 1)

You will need to pass or already hold the Cat C (HGV Class 2) before undertaking the Cat CE training course. Once you pass the Cat C you will automatically receive a Cat CE provisional. You do not need another medical or theory test.

Cat CE Intermediate 16 Hour Course - The average course fits most people. The 16 hour course is usually split into 4 x 4 hour days with the 90 minute DVSA test included on the 4th day.

The course is not a fixed duration, we can arrange more or less training depending on your skill and experience. Our  courses produce an excellent pass rate more than double of the national average.

Will I need a Driver CPC?

If you will be driving professionally you will need a Driver CPC. To qualify you will need to pass the Module 2 - Case Studies Theory Test and Module 4 - Practical Demonstration Tests.
The Mod 2 will be integrated with your theory tests and the Mod 4 training and test will be integrated with your Cat C1 practical driving course with our in-house DVSA assessors.
On completion you will receive a Drivers Qualification Card valid for 5 years. To update this card you will need to complete 35 hours (5 days) periodic training within the 5 years. We hold periodic training courses every week.

Can I pay monthly?

We are able to spread the costs up to 5 years with variable or fixed APR rates. A credit check and T&C’s apply. You can complete the finance application in your name or someone can apply on your behalf. We can work out a monthly plan depending on your budget by adjusting the deposit and the duration of the credit.

How do I start?

We will post you a free starter pack, what address would you like us to send this? This will include everything you need to get started. If you already hold the Cat C (HGV Class 2) you will not need the free starter pack and we can start by arranging a free taster session or training course for the Cat CE (HGV Class 1)

Cat C

License Requirements

  • You must be 18 years +
  • You must have a valid UK driving licence

Who should train? Why should I train?

There is currently a huge shortage of drivers in the UK and it is anticipated that this could double after Brexit. Cat C vehicles are seen delivering goods all over the UK and Europe and it is a standard vehicle category. As a result, Cat C is usually the required qualification for people who enter the haulage industry and therefore the most sought after.

The salary and career opportunities are usually better than the Cat C Class 2 which make it a key qualification for professional drivers. If you want to see more of the UK or Europe, it’s likely that you will be driving the larger Cat C+E vehicles.
